Government Secrecy Government Transparency & Accountability
If you live in Canada or the U.S. you live in an age in which your government is turning more and more to secrecy as a means of governance and domestic policy. I believe this trend is dangerous. It is a betrayal of our democratic freedoms for which so many throughout history, have died. These groups all make it their business to expose secret domestic ops by government and to make secret government documents public and to prevent government from making other documents secret without cause or due process. I don't believe we have to be paranoid but we do have to be vigilant. As the great German historian Detlev Peukert wrote:
The struggle for freedom must always be resumed afresh, both in inquiry and in action.
I hope you value and enjoy these organizations and their websites as much as I do.
I love artwork. It's a welcome, almost physical relief (for me at least) from the grind. Artwork, Images, Visions whatever you want to call it nourishes, refreshes and brightens my mind. The images, otherworldly and natural, you will find on these sites are a reflection of my taste, perhaps of my spirit. I think you'll find something you like in these galleries. Set aside a half hour or so sometime, push your work aside and treat yourself to new perspectives on shape and perception.
Really neat gallery of photos taken all over the world and available as wallpapers and desktops including a couple of galleries that I particularly like called Mountain Adventure and Civilizations . Believe me you will want to save at least on of Tuan's photos to your disk.
Vision Afar Beautiful, surreal other world imagery by Gary Tonge. Once you go, you will be loathe to leave!
Cnet Speakeasy has become a largely pro Bush, pro Iraq war forum

Technorati indexes more than 75 million web logs (blogs) and that number is constantly growing. The name Technorati is a portmanteau, (a word formed by combining two or more words) referring to the technological version of "literati" or intellectuals, hence "Technorati". Technorati won the SXSW 2006 awards for Best Technical Achievement and also Best of Show. It was also nominated for a 2006 Webby award for Best Practices, but lost to Flickr and Google Maps.

History News Network History News Network (HNN) takes an historical approach to news believing that all news has its roots in history, its ironies and lessons, and that the news should only be, or is best presented in, its proper historical context. HNN believes that modern journalism, obsessed with sensationalism and ratings ploys, fails in its duty to report the link between history and news and that worse still, it misrepresents the link between history and news.
As HNN states on its website:
Among the many duties we assume are these: To expose politicians who misrepresent history. To point out bogus analogies. To deflate beguiling myths. To remind Americans of the irony of history. To put events in context. To remind us all of the complexity of history.
